Opening of new waterways on the Amstelmeer

Opening nieuwe vaarroutes op het Amstelmeer

On Saturday 13 June 2026, Hollands Kroon officially opened two new waterways during the ‘Meer op het Amstelmeer’ Water Sports Day. The routes connect Den Oever with De Haukes and Van Ewijcksluis with Anna Paulowna. Councillor Robert Leever opened the routes at 10.00 am in the harbour at De Haukes. The waterways have been specially designed for canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards and are equipped with modern jetties and information boards.

Visitors were able to try out various water sports on the day, including canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing and rowing. For children, there were also Optimists – small single-handed sailing boats specially designed for children aged 8 to 15. Free canoes and stand-up paddleboards were available, and along the way, participants received small surprises from the Hollands Noorderkwartier Water Board and local partners.

With these water routes, the council aims to encourage water sports enthusiasts to get out on the water more often and offers tourists the chance to discover Hollands Kroon in an accessible and active way. The routes contribute to recreation, tourism and a healthy lifestyle.
