What do we use your data for?
Below, we explain for each section what data we process, why we do so, and how long we retain it.
Newsletter
You can sign up for our newsletter. In it, we share tips, special offers and new routes. We send the newsletter with your consent.
We use your email address for this purpose.
We will retain your email address until you unsubscribe. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link at the bottom of each newsletter.
Sharing your location
On the website, you will soon be able to share your location. This allows us to show you which routes start in your neighbourhood. We only do this with your consent.
For this purpose, we use:

- the favourites you select.
We only retain this data for as long as you use the website.
Downloading information
On the website, you can download routes, maps and brochures. Sometimes we ask for your email address for this purpose.
For this, we use:

- your interests or preferences.
We retain this data for up to 2 years after you have requested the information.
Contact
Are you contacting us via a form, email or telephone? In that case, we record what we need to help you properly.
For this purpose, we use:
- name;
- email address and/or telephone number;
- the content of your message.
We retain this data for a maximum of 2 years after our last contact.
Surveys
We sometimes ask you to complete a survey. We use your answers to improve the website. We process your data for this purpose on the basis of our legitimate interest.
For this, we use:
- name (if you provide it);
- email address (if you provide it);
- the answers from the survey.
We retain this data for a maximum of 2 years.
Visual material
The website contains photos and videos. Some are taken by us, others are provided by partners or photographers.
For this purpose, we process:
- name;
- email address and telephone number;
- the photo or video itself;
- what you show of yourself in the image.

Do we share your data with others?
We only share your data if permitted by law. This may be, for example, because:
- we have engaged a company to process data on our behalf;
- we have a legal basis for doing so;
- we are legally obliged to do so, for example in response to a request from the police.
Parties that process data on our behalf or on your behalf include:
- IT suppliers, such as the website developer and host;
- our software supplier for routes and events;
- cookie providers (see further on in this statement);
- partners in tourism and recreation in North Holland.
Some suppliers are located outside the European Economic Area (EEA). In such cases, we take additional measures to ensure your data is properly protected.

Our website features social media buttons. You can use these buttons to follow us or share a post. The buttons work via code provided by the social media platforms themselves.

How do we protect your data?
We take the security of your data very seriously. That is why we take appropriate measures to protect your data against loss, misuse or unauthorised access.
Examples of measures we take:

- access control on our systems;
- staff are bound by a duty of confidentiality;
- only staff who need your data can access it.
We continually update our security measures to reflect the latest technological standards. The Data Protection Officer and the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of the Province of North Holland oversee our data processing and security.
What rights do you have?
Under the GDPR, you have a number of rights:
- Access: you may request your data from us.
- Rectification: you may have your data corrected if it is inaccurate.
- Objection: you may object to the use of your data, for example for direct marketing.
- Erasure: you may ask us to delete your data.
- Withdrawal of consent: have you given us your consent? You may withdraw it at any time.
- Portability: in some cases, you may have your data transferred to another party.
- Restriction: in some cases, you may ask us to (temporarily) stop using your data.
