North Holland surprises visitors with a rich variety of landscapes, each with its own unique character. Along the coast, you’ll find wide dunes, lively seaside resorts, and walking and cycling routes by the sea and through nature, such as through the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. The Gooi and Vecht region offers peace and space: green estates, historic country homes, and charming villages, perfect for culture and relaxation. In the Loosdrecht Lakes area, you can walk and cycle on and around the water.
In the Beemster, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you’ll see the stark polder landscape with its straight lines, historic farmhouses, and a rich agricultural history. The Zaan region is the heart of industrial heritage. West Friesland tells the story of the 17th-century trading era and the centuries-long battle against the water.
North Holland North is known for its sweeping views, characteristic villages, and a strong connection to water and nature. A beautiful setting for a walk or bike ride. There is also much to discover on the water: by canoe, rowboat, or SUP, you can explore the province from a different perspective.
The Alkmaar region features a historic city center, the famous cheese market, and a diverse array of museums and events. The Wadden Sea region, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers space and tranquility on the edge of the Wadden Sea.
Together, these regions make North Holland a diverse province where everyone can find a suitable route. View the regions below.
