Culture & Heritage
Tucked away in a residential area lies the historic Fort Werk IV, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site ‘Dutch Waterlines’. The fort is used as an events venue, but you can often wander around freely. Next to it is the Spant Theatre, where national and international acts perform. The charming Filmtheater also offers a great selection for a cultural evening out.
Shopping
Shop in one of the boutiques on Nassaustraat, Brinklaan, Julianaplein and Spiegelstraat, amongst others. In Bussum, you’ll find a few shops from well-known chains, but the local character still really dominates the high street here. Grab a spot on a terrace in the charming Kapelstraat or pick up some new homeware on Huizerweg.
Radio & Television
Bussum was once home to the Netherlands’ first television studio, Studio Irene. Nowadays, Hilversum is the media hub of the Netherlands, but traces of Bussum’s radio and television past can still be found here. Take the ‘Van Kooten en de Bie’ route, for example, which uses historical footage to guide you past locations that once featured in the legendary series Van Kooten en de Bie.
