Huizer botters op het Gooimeer

Huizen – Port of 't Gooi

Gemeente Huizen

From fishing village to bustling harbour town

Huizen is welcoming, diverse and connected to the water. It began as a small farming village on the sandy soils of the Gooi region and later grew into an important fishing village on the former Zuiderzee. For centuries, fishing shaped life in the village. Today, historic sites, narrow streets and local tales still serve as reminders of this maritime past.

Huizen is the perfect place to get out and about. Stroll through the Nautical Quarter and along the Zomerkade, or head out into nature towards the Gooise heathland and woods. Cycling and walking routes connect the village with the surrounding countryside, taking you past dykes, waterways and green nature reserves. Along the way, you’ll find cosy terraces, shops and spots to enjoy the view over the Gooimeer.
