Toeristisch Overstappunt Koopmanspolder

Koopmanspolder is a unique nature reserve near Andijk that serves as a testing ground for future water management, with a flexible water level and a unique design resembling a whirlpool. The area attracts marsh and waterfowl in particular and is accessible to visitors from July to October via a shell path from the Westfriese Omringdijk.

Water management, nature and art

The Koopmanspolder is an area outside the dike near Andijk that was originally agricultural land but has been redeveloped as a testing ground for innovative water management. Thanks to a flexible water level and an artistic design that resembles a whirlpool from above, the landscape has been transformed into an interplay of water, nature, and landscape art, with diverse habitats for plants and animals.

Fauna, recreation and accessibility

Due to the varying water levels, the polder primarily attracts marsh and waterfowl that rest and forage here, while fish-friendly systems allow fish to migrate. From July 15th to October 15th, visitors can reach a viewing point in the middle of the "maelstrom" via a shell path from the Westfriese Omringdijk and wander along the dikes, making the area ideal for a peaceful nature walk or birdwatching.
