Cycling through the vast polders of Laag Holland, you pass below sea level to Volendam, Monnickendam, and the island of Marken. This route takes you to the historic city center of Monnickendam, the Paard van Marken, and past the Volendam harbor!
Cycle through the unique, quintessentially Dutch landscape of Laag Holland to Volendam, Monnickendam, and the island of Marken. The starting point of this cycling route is the always lively and characteristic harbor of Volendam. You cycle along the dike beside the Gouwzee towards authentic Monnickendam. Here, you can choose to make a short stop and explore the historic city center, full of beautiful houses from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Continue your route via the Waterlandse Zeedijk to arrive at the picturesque island of Marken. You cycle through Marken and arrive at the centuries-old lighthouse 'Het Paard van Marken'. After visiting Marken, take the Volendam Marken Express ferry back to Volendam, which is also the end point of the cycling route!
