The route runs along the water of the Zaan as much as possible. Where factories once stood, residential complexes have now risen that resemble their predecessors in form and volume.
On the old river dikes on the East and West sides, you can still see the grand villas of the manufacturers, while many workers' homes have been built in the cross streets. All these side paths used to have small ditches, almost all of which have been filled in. On the east side are neighborhoods with social housing, while to the west of the Zaan there is more private property. Along the way, there are various vistas with beautiful views over the water. Some of the factories have been repurposed, such as the former Verkade biscuit factory and the
Zwaardemaker's old groat hulling mill. Beautiful houses and even a farmhouse stand along the dead-end Stuurmanspad. The ditch is also still present.
