You start your journey and immediately feel the wind in your hair, with the vastness of the Wadden Sea by your side. The route takes you along the eastern part of Wieringen, a landscape that bears witness to both human intervention and ancient nature. You pass Westerland, where a spectacular Viking treasure was found in 1996. Imagine how these Norsemen landed here back then, in search of loot, and hid their valuable silverware in earthenware pots. You can almost picture the grass where the treasure lay buried! Along the way, you smell the salty sea air and hear the calls of birds, especially in the spring when many migratory birds stop here.
