A summer bike ride over and along an age-old dike that once protected people and animals from the salt water. You choose from 50, 80 or 135 kilometres and cycle part or all of the dike. Along the way, there are culinary and cultural stops. A beautiful start to the cycling summer.
A 126-kilometre dike
The Westfriese Omringdijk winds through the landscape like a great monument. In the past, the dike kept the seawater at bay; now it is a beautiful route with sweeping views over polders, villages, and water. In the local dialect, the dike is also known as “De Grôte Daikboekel”. During this tour, you will cycle along a part of the dike, or, for the longest distance, the entire perimeter.
Choose your start and distance
You can choose from three starting locations and three distances: 50, 80, or 135 kilometres. Along the way, there are aid stations and stops where you can enjoy the culture and delicacies of the region. The routes are signposted and you can follow the tour via the organisation's app.
Enjoy together
The tour is intended to be ridden together with cycling buddies and is suitable for recreational and sporty cyclists. In the previous edition, over 1,600 cyclists took part. You can make a voluntary donation to charity.
