Two centuries-old castles
Heemskerk train station forms the starting point of this route. From here, you walk to the outskirts of Heemskerk, where you can take a look at the beautiful Assumburg Castle. This castle likely dates back to the 13th century and served as a noble residence for a long time. Behind the castle, you will find a historic garden inspired by the garden that existed here around the year 1700. A few kilometers further on, you will find the second castle on this route: Marquette. This castle was also built in the 13th century. This structure was part of a long series of castles used for defense during the West Frisian Wars.
