Ziltepad - Rondwandeling Stroe

The hand of sea and ice that kneaded and shaped Wieringen is visible to anyone who looks around. Stroe is old. Wieringen has been continuously inhabited since as early as 2600 BC. The boulder clay hills rose above the salt marshes and peat bogs.

In the early Middle Ages, Stroe was likely already a sacred place for the Frisians, who gathered there to honor the gods. Later, shortly after the Christianization of the Frisians and the arrival of the missionaries Bonifatius, Liudger, and Willibrord, a small wooden church was erected there.
