Wandelroute Wormer

The most varied walk of all ten, featuring both sweeping views and heritage. With the Zaan as the grand finale. The Wormer- and Jisperveld is the largest continuous peat meadow area in Western Europe.

It consists of hundreds of small meadows bordered by rustling reeds and narrow ditches. This vast nature reserve teems with birds. To avoid disturbing them, you may only enter the area using silent electric boats. Nevertheless, there is plenty to see and hear from the edge of De Poel. After this first section, you walk along the Dorpsstraat of the old linear village of Wormer, after which the route leads past an ice rink to the dike of the Enge Wormer. Here you can clearly see how low some Zaankanters live! In 1638, the former lake was drained, which now lies to the left of the dike. The hamlet of Bartelsluis officially belongs to Wormer. Passing the distinctive town hall, you walk to the Zaan with its old industrial wall and modern businesses, eventually returning to the starting point.
